Sizing & fitting guide
A support that is the wrong size will not do its job, and can do harm. Two minutes with a tape measure saves a return.
Before you measure
- Use a soft tape measure, not a metal one.
- Measure over bare skin, not over clothing.
- Keep the tape level and snug, without compressing the skin.
- If you fall between two sizes, go up rather than down — a support that is too tight restricts circulation.
- Measure the limb you need the support for. Left and right can differ.
Where to measure
| Body area | Measure here |
|---|---|
| Knee | Around the leg 15 cm above the middle of the kneecap, standing with the leg straight.Measure the thigh, not the knee joint itself — that is what the sizing charts use. |
| Back & abdominal | Around the waist at the level of the navel, standing relaxed and breathing out normally.Do not pull the tape tight or hold your stomach in. The support has to fit how you actually are. |
| Wrist | Around the wrist just below the bony bump, with the hand open and relaxed.Note which hand it is for — splinted braces are left- or right-specific. |
| Elbow | Around the forearm 5 cm below the elbow crease, arm relaxed and slightly bent.Tennis elbow straps are measured on the forearm, not the joint. |
| Ankle & calf | Around the narrowest part of the ankle, just above the ankle bone.Measure at the end of the day if there is any swelling, so it still fits when you need it most. |
Needs your review: These are general measuring points. Each manufacturer publishes its own size chart in centimetres — add the actual charts for the ranges you stock, and the sizes on each product page will line up with them.
Checking the fit
A correctly fitted support should:
- feel firm and supportive, not tight;
- stay in place when you move, without being pulled up constantly;
- leave no deep indentation in the skin when removed;
- leave the limb beyond it a normal colour and temperature — pale, cold, blue or tingling means it is too tight.
Remove it and re-fit it looser if any of those apply. Read the safety information before first use.
